Across the globe, Engineering Education is faced with the following challenges:

  1. High cost of Engineering Education.
  2. Decrease in the Gross Enrolment Index (GEI) in higher education.
  3. Quality concerns.
  4. Complexities in the expansion of Engineering Education to meet the future requirements.
  5. Re-defining of the Engineers due to the Technology oriented societal transformations
  6. Increase in Unemployment, specifically in developing countries.
  7. Lack of support from the Government.

Further, Engineering Education requires a rapid enhancement in the following domains.
  • Strengthen the governance and the leadership
  • Improving the quality of teaching, learning and Research
  • Foster stronger Industry Institute collaborations
  • Encourage innovation and entrepreneurship

Disruption is an innovation that transforms a sector by introducing simplicity, convenience, accessibility & affordability. Disruptions that occur through technology are called Technology disruptions; The Technology that aids disruption is called Disruptive Technology. Effective integration of disruptive technologies can lead to a disruption in the process followed so far in a domain, bringing out a process disruption. In order to explore the ways to disrupt the Engineering Education so that the Engineering Education accomplishes the task in a better way, with simplicity, accessibility, affordability & with out compromising the quality, the theme of WEEF 2019 is chosen as “Disruptive Engineering Education for a Sustainable Development”

Disruptive Engineering Education is an innovative process with a paradigm shift in the existing practices that leads to simplicity, convenience, accessibility & affordability for a sustainable development. The process includes discovering problems, discarding the fundamental thinking and solve through disruption. WEEF 2019 aims to explore the adoption of disruptive technologies for engineering education

Thus, WEEF 2019 will address to promote engineering education with disruptive approaches that includes technologies. WEEF 2019 will provide a platform for the leaders of academics, administrators of Engineering education and industries to brainstorm and propose novel approaches to Engineering Education through disruptive technologies. In that context, WEEF 2019 invites abstracts/proposals for workshops on the above sub-thematic areas for a possible oral presentation/poster presentation. We strongly encourage abstracts which may lead to an real-time implementable work that will simplify the process of engineering education through disruption. In short, abstracts are invited (but not limited to ) on the following items.
  • Any component of Engineering Education, where the process can be disrupted.
  • Technology/Integration of technologies (from any discipline of Engineering) that may be deployed for a possible disruption.
